Oahu… Better Then Fresno

We started out the day by going to the Valley of the Temples where there is a cool Buddist temple. It costs 2 dollars per person to get in, but is is worth it.

After that we randomly followed a sign to a 400 acre botanical gardens. This place is cool cause it’s big, has a whole bunch of plants, and costs nothing to get in. Also, if you want you can camp there.
It even has a Haole (white person) only drinking fountain :)
To end the night we met up with some friends on hung out at the Gordan Beirsch bar at Aloha Tower. Great bar right on the harbor.

Slept in as usual and decided to drive around coastline of the island today. We cut through the center to save time. Our main purpose today was to continue our quest to find some huge waves… which we did.
One of our first stops was the famous Chinamen’s Hat Island.
is cool spot with old story on a rock.
There is an excellent rock with a big hole in it.
Here is a video of the waves coming in. It doesn’t show how insane the water is, but it is still cool (and the only video that came out).
As we went around, the closer we got to Sunset beach and the North Shore they got bigger and bigger. Later on on the news they said that waves reached 25 feet at Sunset beach… awesome. The whole way the water was very choppy.
Unfortunately I was unable to get any great photos of killer waves, but take my word for it they were cool.
To end the night we went to the Tantalus lookout on Round Top Drive that overlooks Honolulu. This is an absolute must if you are in Honolulu. I suggest going twice, once during the day and once at night. Bear in mind that the lookout closes at 10 pm and it is patroled by Honolulu police. If you are interested, here are directions. If you decide to go you will need the directions. It is difficult to get to and there are no signs. Unfortunately I did not have a decent camera on me to take photos, but I found an excellent photo on the web (hardly does it justice).

Today is flight day. We left the house at 6:30 am to return the rental car and wait at the airport. Our flight left at 9 am and headed to LA. This time the flight didn’t seem very long. I watched both movies and some random crap. We left 70 degree sunny weather and landed in dense fog at 58 degrees. :( We boarded our next plane immediately and landed in Fresno at about 6 pm. To end this vacation perfectly, American Airlines put our bags on the following flight. So, we waited until 7:40 to get our bags and found out they diverted the plane to Monterey due to heavy fog. So, after filling out a claim we left at 8 pm and headed home.

Finally we picked up our bags at 2:30 pm… Merry Christmas to us!
