Oh well, time to rack up my credit cards again and get on the
Woot-Off train
Much funnier when watched with audio.
And again… we have ourselves a money stealing Woot-Off!
Last time was November 16th… under a month ago, not bad.
… and I am going to steal Cory’s link since he stole my picture last time. :)
… and if you want to know what you have missed.
… or (it looks like it is coming alive, and you don’t have to worry about the Woot servers going down)

So, a new new portable DVD player is coming out that looks very attractive and has some excellent features. On the looks side it has a bamboo encrusted lid…

… and an attractive leather carrying case. Functionally, it has a 10-inch wide LCD and touch panel controls. Overall very nice. The price tag however is absurd. In the words of Gizmodo
If you’re going to spend $1200 on such a device, why not just get a notebook that can do the same thing and lots more, and probably have a bigger screen and cost less?
A few blogs wrote about this DVD player, but what bothers me the most is that none commented on the following image:
What the hell?
Holy Crap!!! Here we go again. Break out your credit cards ’cause the Woot-Off train is here again!
Here is is best Woot-Off Checker I have found so far:
Semideaf’s Woot-off Checker v1.0B

Well, most know what this means now… if you don’t then run!
… and for those that want to follow this woot-off…
As I was refreshing I clicked on the woot! logo and it took me here…
Thats new (new to me… it has been going since May 22, 2006) and quite random… oh well, whatever.
I can’t explain this as well as the creators can:
Electric Sheep is a free, open source screen saver run by thousands of people all over the world. It can be installed on any ordinary PC or Mac. When these computers “sleep”, the screen saver comes on and the computers communicate with each other by the internet to share the work of creating morphing abstract animations known as “sheep”. The result is a collective “android dream”, an homage to Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.
Anyone watching one of these computers may vote for their favorite animations using the keyboard. The more popular sheep live longer and reproduce according to a genetic algorithm with mutation and cross-over. Hence the flock evolves to please its global audience. You can also design your own sheep and submit them to the gene pool.
If you haven’t played Samorost or Samorost 2 then you are missing out on a very great, although short, puzzle game.

Some of you might be as familiar with Microsoft’s latest piracy warrior… the Windows Genuine Advantage spyware program. If not then here is what it is (on the surface):
Windows Genuine Advantage includes two main tools - Windows Genuine Advantage Validation and Windows Genuine Advantage Notification. The WGA Validation tool checks that an instance of Windows XP is properly licensed, and is required for some Windows updates. If the copy doesn’t check out, WGA Notification repeatedly reminds the user to upgrade to a properly licensed version of Windows.

The end is near… again. Here is a good short read on people’s unwaranted fear of the number 666.
The last time the 666 combination occurred was in 1666, the year of the Great Fire of London.
However, it also marked the year in which Sir Isaac Newton published his Law of Gravity, leading it to be dubbed the Annus mirabilis.
This is an interesting concept and proof that open source whatever is gaining momentum. Elephant’s Dream is the first open source movie that I have come across. The website is currently down due to traffic however they have a bland temp page setup. On thier website they have links to download the full short film in various formats, soundtrack, as well as the production files.
The movie is most definately worth checking out. It has a very “Tim Burton” feel to it. In other words it’s strange.
Upgrading our memory is a matter of improving our recording and retrieving abilities.
(A) Camera components could be made tiny enough to fit in a contact lens.
(B) A high-precision microphone could fit in your ear.
(C) The data could be downloaded to a searchable handheld gadget.
In 2021 You’ll Enjoy Total Recall
Software will allow you to easily carry years’ worth of searchable memories—in your pocket
Humans naturally have the power to remember almost two bits of information per second, or a few hundred megabytes over a lifetime. Compared with a DVD movie, which holds up to 17 gigabytes, that’s nothing. Worse, you might easily recall the 40-year-old dialogue from Hogan’s Heroes yet forget your mom’s birthday. Or memorize reams of sports stats while spacing out on work you completed just last week.
