Here is an interesting experiment that college students did for their student movie festival in which a group of drivers drive at the speed limit in formation taking up all lanes on the freeway. The location they filmed is in Atlanta, not California!

As Jay Leno commented, speed limit on California highways are just a suggestion. :-O
